3 Things to Consider Before Starting a Project: Budgeting Edition

Whether you’re cooking, eating or entertaining, many of us tend to spend quite a bit of time in the kitchen.

While a kitchen renovation is a beneficial investment, it can be quite pricey!

Here are a few things to consider before you start a kitchen renovation on a budget:

1)     What is a priority in your renovation project?

Kitchen renovations can certainly add up! Instead of changing out the appliances, cupboards, countertops, and layout of your kitchen, perhaps there are just a few key areas that could be updated to provide a drastic change in the aesthetics of the room: changing the cabinet and drawer handles, for example.

On the other hand, if your countertops are heavily scratched or are outdated, they might be your priority over purchasing a new refrigerator and stove set at this point in time.

2)     How much money are you willing to spend on countertops?

Do you have the finances to spend on kitchen renovations? The type of countertop material you choose could make a big difference here. As a general rule, laminate is a relatively inexpensive option, with stone and wood being pricier.

3)     Is DIY right for you?

Most of the time, we recommend leaving countertop installation up to the professionals. However, if you are comfortable working with tools and you have done kitchen renovations yourself in the past, you might be able to DIY.

Laminate countertops in particular are a DIY-friendly material: it is light and easy to move, and requires only basic wood construction tools to successfully install in your kitchen.

If you aren’t sure if DIY is right for you, you can always schedule a free in-home consultation to go over your options!
