Answers to the most common questions

What types of countertops do you offer?

We offer and install a wide range of countertop materials, including granite, marble, quartz, quartzite, natural stone, porcelain, solid surface, and butcher block. Availability varies by color/pattern and supplier.

Do you help me choose the right material?

Yes. We’ll help you compare materials based on look, durability, maintenance, stain/heat resistance, and budget, and we’ll recommend options that fit how you actually use your kitchen or bathroom.

Can I see slabs in person before I buy?

In most cases, yes. Many customers prefer selecting their exact slab(s) because natural stone varies a lot from one slab to another. Although, we do not have most full slabs, the supplier (if local) should have slabs for you to vie win person.

Do you handle everything from template to install?

Typically, yes. The usual process is consultation → material selection → template/measure → fabrication → installation. (Some projects may include demo/removal and plumbing coordination depending on the project.)

How long does the whole process take?

Timelines vary based on material availability, project complexity, and scheduling—but most projects follow a straightforward sequence once materials are selected and the space is ready.

How much do new countertops cost?

Countertop pricing depends on:

  • Material type (granite vs quartz vs quartzite, etc.)

  • Square footage and layout complexity

  • Edge profile choice

  • Number of seams

  • Sink/cooktop/faucet cutouts

  • Backsplash height (if included)

  • Demo/removal needs and access conditions
We provide an estimate after reviewing your measurements and selections.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes, we do. We are happy to travel to your home for an in-home appointment, we can meet you in a local showroom for a showroom appointment, or we can call, text, or email you for a virtual appointment.

What’s the price difference between quartz, granite, marble, and quartzite?

It depends on the specific color/brand/grade and local availability. Our salesperson would be happy to generate a free estimate for you. In general:

  • Quartz often offers consistent patterns and low maintenance.

  • Granite offers natural variation and strong durability.

  • Marble is classic and beautiful but requires more care.

  • Quartzite is a natural stone known for strength and premium looks.

What increases the price of a countertop project?

Common cost drivers include:

  • Waterfall edges

  • Mitered edges (thicker-looking edges)

  • Full-height backsplashes

  • Extra cutouts (farm sinks, cooktops, outlets)

  • Tight seams / complex layouts

  • Multiple slabs or premium/exotic materials

Yes, we do. Please visit here for more details!

What does “countertop fabrication” mean?

Fabrication is the process of turning slabs into finished countertops: cutting, shaping, polishing edges, creating cutouts, and preparing the pieces for installation.

What is “templating” and why is it important?

Templating is when we measure your cabinets/walls precisely to create the exact countertop layout before cutting. It helps ensure accurate fit—especially in older homes where walls may not be perfectly straight.

Do you use laser templating?

We do, it allows us to have the most accurate measurements before we starting fabricating and cutting your countertop.

When do you template—before or after cabinets are installed?

Templating is typically done after cabinets are installed and secured so measurements match the final cabinet placement.

Can you fabricate to my measurements if I don’t want templating?

We do not usually recommended this process because small measurement errors can cause big fit issues. We usually require templating to stand behind fit and warranties.

What edge profiles can I choose from?

Common edge profiles include:

  • Eased (slight bevel)

  • Pencil round

  • Bullnose / half bullnose

  • Ogee

  • Bevel

  • Mitered edge (thicker look)
(Exact options vary by company and material.)

Can you match an edge style I already have?

Often yes—bring a photo or sample, and we’ll confirm what’s possible with your chosen material.

Can you do custom shapes or curves?

In many cases, yes. Custom work may increase fabrication time and cost.

Will my countertops have seams?

Most countertop projects have seams, depending on slab size, layout, and how the pieces must be moved into the home.

Where will seams be placed?

Seams are usually planned where they’ll be least noticeable and most structurally sound, based on slab size, layout, and usage areas.

Can you guarantee “no seams”?

Not always. Many kitchens require seams due to slab size limits and the realities of transporting/installing large pieces safely.

Will seams be visible?

A well-done seam is typically subtle but may be visible depending on material pattern, lighting, and where it’s located. We aim to make seams as clean and discreet as possible.

Do my cabinets need to be level?

Yes. Level cabinets help ensure a proper fit, reduce stress on the stone, and support long-term durability.

Do my cabinets need extra support for stone countertops?

Sometimes. Stone is heavy, and large spans or weak cabinetry may need reinforcement.

How much overhang can I have without brackets?

It depends on material type and thickness. We recommend support when overhangs exceed common safe limits (often around the 10–12″ range, depending on stone and thickness).

What kinds of overhang supports are available?

Common options include hidden steel brackets, corbels, legs/ends, or design features like panels.

Do you provide sinks?

We do have several sinks that we offer and carry in house. Please inquire with our salesperson to view the most recent options available.

What’s the difference between undermount and drop-in sinks?

  • Undermount: mounted under the stone for a clean look

  • Drop-in/top-mount: sits on top of the counter with a visible rim

Can you install farmhouse (apron-front) sinks?

Often yes—these usually require cabinet modifications and careful planning.

Can you cut holes for faucets, soap dispensers, or filtered water taps?

Yes—these are common requests. Make sure all accessories are selected before templating/fabrication.

Can you cut the countertop for a cooktop?

Yes. We confirm your appliance specs before cutting to ensure proper fit and safety clearances.

What is granite?

Granite is a natural stone known for durability, heat resistance, and unique natural patterns. Want to learn more about how granite is quarried, finished, and how it compares to other countertop materials? Read our full guide → What Is Granite? Nature’s Timeless Surface

Does granite need to be sealed?

Many granites benefit from sealing to help resist staining. Sealing frequency depends on the specific stone and usage.

What is marble?

Marble is a natural stone prized for elegant veining. It can be more sensitive to acids (like lemon juice) and may etch, so it’s often chosen when beauty is the top priority. See why homeowners choose marble over other materialsMarble: A Timeless Symbol of Beauty and Elegance

The Stone Behind Today’s Most Popular Countertops

Is quartz “natural stone”?

Quartz surfaces contain natural quartz, but the slab is engineered/manufactured (not quarried as a single stone slab like granite or marble).

What is quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone formed from sandstone and known for strength and premium natural looks. It’s different from quartz (engineered). Learn what makes Quartzite countertops so specialQuartzite: The Perfect Blend of Nature and Strength

Granite vs quartz: which is better?

Neither is “best” for everyone:

  • Choose quartz for low maintenance and consistent designs

  • Choose granite for natural uniqueness and excellent durability

Quartzite vs marble: what’s the difference?

Marble often has classic soft veining but can be more prone to etching; quartzite is usually chosen for a more durable natural stone option while still offering high-end looks.

Which countertop is best for a busy family kitchen?

Many busy homes prefer quartz or durable natural stones with good sealing/care routines. The best choice depends on cooking habits, cleaning preferences, and desired look.

Are stone countertops heat resistant?

Many stone surfaces handle heat well, but sudden temperature changes and direct hot pans can still cause damage. Using trivets is always recommended.

Will quartz burn or discolor from heat?

Quartz can be heat resistant but may be more vulnerable to thermal damage/discoloration than some natural stones. Use trivets/hot pads to protect the surface.

Are countertops scratch resistant?

Many surfaces are scratch resistant, but not scratch proof. Use cutting boards to protect both the counter and your knives.

Will my countertop stain?

Some materials are more stain resistant than others. Prompt cleanup helps prevent staining across all surfaces—especially on porous natural stones.

What causes chips on stone countertops?

Chips often happen on edges/corners from impacts (heavy pots, dropped objects). Some chips are repairable.

Can chipped or cracked countertops be repaired?

Often yes, depending on severity, location, and material. Small chips can frequently be filled and blended.

How do I clean my countertops daily?

Use a soft cloth with mild soap and water or a stone-safe cleaner. Avoid harsh abrasives unless approved for your surface.

What cleaners should I avoid?

Avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners and anything that could damage the finish. For marble, avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar/lemon-based).

Do I need to reseal my countertops?

  • Granite/quartzite/marble: may need sealing depending on the stone

  • Quartz: typically does not require sealing
Your fabricator can recommend a schedule based on your specific material.

How can I tell if granite needs sealing?

A common test is checking how the stone reacts to water over a short time (your installer can show you the right method and recommend next steps).

Can I use vinegar on granite or marble?

It’s generally not recommended—especially on marble—because acids can damage or dull natural stone surfaces.

What thickness do countertops come in?

Common thicknesses include 2 cm and 3 cm (and sometimes thinner options for certain materials). Availability depends on material type and supplier.

What is a waterfall edge?

A waterfall edge is when the countertop material continues down the side of an island/cabinet to the floor for a dramatic, modern look.

Are waterfall countertops more expensive?

Usually yes, because they require more material and added fabrication/installation complexity.

Can you do a matching slab backsplash?

Often yes. Full-height slab backsplashes can create a seamless, premium look.

Can you match my countertops to my cabinets/flooring?

Yes—we can recommend colors and patterns based on your finishes, lighting, and overall style goals.

Do you serve my area?

We serve Auburn, WA, Tacoma, WA, Portland, OR, Boise, ID, Bozeman, Montana, and Post Falls, ID/ Spokane, WA. Contact us with your zip code and project address and we’ll confirm availability.

How far in advance should I book?

For best scheduling options, book as soon as you’re confident about your timeline—especially during peak remodeling seasons.

What do I need to do before templating?

Common prep items:

  • Cabinets installed, secured, and level

  • Final sink/faucet/appliance selections made

  • Clear access to the space
    (Exact checklist varies by company.)

What do I need to do before installation?

Clear countertops and fragile items, create a path for carrying stone pieces, and ensure pets/children are safely out of the work area.

Do countertops come with a warranty?

We offer Granite Gold Protection plan at the time of your consultation and at template.

What if I notice an issue after installation?

Contact us as soon as possible. Photos help. Many issues can be resolved quickly if caught early.
